Statement: My paintings are not portraits. They are inspired from the work I do as an acupuncturist and body worker. As a healer I work with my clients’ bodies as well as their energy, spirit, and personal power. Through this healing work, I watch people transform, grow and find their Personal Light. Transformation is not always easy or pretty but it is always beautiful. It is a powerful journey full of darkness and light. My paintings look to capture the beauty of the journey.
These paintings are created with my hands, fingers, and minimal tools. No brushes are used. I use my hands. My fingers. Sometimes my elbow.
Each piece begins as a monoprint - a one shot print pulled off on a sheet of plexiglass.
I "draw" with my fingers using ink on plexiglass and then transfer the image to paper. I do this in an effort to strike a balance between control and spontaneity. Intention and chance. I never know exactly what will happen.
After the image comes out I will either leave it as is. Or add color on top. Sometimes I scratch at it. Other times I use pastels. Or powdered pigment. Brushes just do not work for me and I avoid them.
